Ahakista is a small Irish village on the Sheep's Head Peninsula, between Durrus and Kilcrohane in County Cork. This coastal village is known for its small deep-water harbour and surrounding woodlands.
The village is charming, although it has few visitor attractions beyond its prehistoric stone circle on the outskirts, known as the Ahakista Circle Stone. It has a church, two Irish pubs, two B&Bs and a handful of local shops. The Sheep's Head Way passes through the village, following an 88 km route around the Sheep's Head Peninsula.
You will also find the Air India Crash Memorial here. The monument commemorates the 1985 bombing of an Air India aircraft as it flew over Ireland's west coast. None of the passengers survived.
