Sheep's Head Peninsula

Sheep’s Head, also known as Muntervary, is a picturesque Irish peninsula near Bantry Bay and Dunmanus Bay in County Cork. Popular with walkers, it is best known for its wild scenery and steep cliffs overlooking the ocean.

Visiting Sheep’s Head

A peninsula shaped by the sea

Sheep’s Head Peninsula has few visitor attractions as such. Instead, visitors come for its natural beauty and three small villages: Durrus, Ahakista and Kilcrohane. Walkers often recommend the Sheep’s Head Way, an 88 km hiking route. Its scenic paths follow the coast to the tip of the peninsula.

The scenery is superb, and you can stop in each of the area’s three villages. Take time to linger: the pubs are welcoming and the locals are friendly.
