Cahersiveen, also spelled Caherciveen, is a small village in County Kerry, on the western side of the Iveragh Peninsula. With its 1,400 inhabitants, the village is a popular tourist destination in summer. Its picturesque streets and seaside scenery are much appreciated… not to mention its perfect location at the foot of the Iveragh Mountains.

A village lost in the wilderness…
Admittedly, Cahersiveen isn’t the best-known village in County Kerry. But it’s particularly appreciated for its exceptional setting, where mountains, valleys and sea meet. Situated just a stone’s throw from Valentia Island, the village thrives on tourism and fishing.
It also boasts the birthplace of the eminent Daniel O’Connell in 1775.
Don’t hesitate to visit its little port, narrow streets and shops: you’ll be made to feel very welcome, and you’ll probably be invited to settle down for a toast at the local pub! (The locals are quite chatty and friendly). Overall, Cahersiveen has a charm that has remained intact, despite its tourist appeal.
Cahersiveen has a few nice little restaurants, as well as some comfortable B&Bs for those wishing to make the village their HQ. The surrounding area is teeming with outstanding tourist attractions, so you’ll be spoilt for choice if you decide to spend a few days in the village!
If you’re a keen walker, don’t miss the O’Connell Heritage Trail, a 6km circuit that circles the village and offers lovely views of the Irish countryside. And don’t miss the Bentee Loop, another hiking trail that allows you to discover the beauty of the nearby mountains. You’re sure to fall under the spell of south-western Ireland!
