Newry

Newry (Iúr Cinn Trá in Irish) is the fourth largest town in Northern Ireland, and also the oldest! Prized for its lush green countryside and the fishing in Lough Neagh, Newry is as warm as it is welcoming…

History of Newry

A town built around a Cistercian monastery…

The origins of Newry date back to 1144, when a Cistercian monastery was built. Growing over the centuries, Newry attracted a large number of inhabitants, making it one of the oldest towns in Northern Ireland.

Today, Newry is regarded as a young, attractive town that has outgrown the Troubles in Northern Ireland.
