A magnificent beach on the Wild Atlantic Way

Allihies Beach is about 40 kilometers from Cork city. The best way to get there is by car or bus.

Once there, the scenery is breathtaking! Fine white sand, crystal-clear turquoise waters… Not to mention a breathtaking view of the surrounding area, with its green hues contrasting with the blue of the ocean…

At low tide, the exposed rocks offer the perfect opportunity for shellfish picking or watching marine life in action.

Let’s face it: Allihies Beach is an ideal place for swimming, hiking, fishing and photography.

But be warned: although it looks like a good spot for a swim, the water is nonetheless cold and rough! Rest assured, however: the beach is supervised by lifeguards in summer.

You can picnic with your feet in the sand or take a siesta on site.

As well as swimming and relaxing on the fine sands, Allihies beach is the starting point for many hiking trails. The trails offer panoramic views of the Beara Peninsula and the Atlantic Ocean, and are suitable for all levels of walker. For water sports enthusiasts, surfing and sea kayaking are popular in the area, with several local schools offering courses for beginners and advanced.

Finally, you can fish from the shore. Fishing is permitted on the beach, but it’s important to observe the rules in force.

Fauna and flora

The Allihies region is rich in biodiversity. If you’re lucky, on a stroll along the beach or a hike in the surrounding hills, you may spot seals playing in the waves or birds such as shearwaters and egrets. Coastal vegetation, adapted to the marine climate, is also a distinctive feature of the region.
