Aviva Stadium(Staid Aviva in Irish Gaelic) is a sports stadium in Dublin. Recently completed, it was inaugurated on May 15, 2010, replacing Lansdowne Road, another stadium deemed too dilapidated. An exceptional stadium for sports matches and concerts!
The Aviva Stadium project began in 2004. At that time, Lansdowne Road was the city’s largest stadium, hosting major national and international rugby matches. However, the stadium is aging, and the government has agreed to demolish it and rebuild Aviva Stadium on the same site.
The new stadium promises more than 50,000 seats, as well as a more modern infrastructure. The cost of the project is staggering: estimated at over 365 million euros, co-financed by state aid and the Irish soccer and rugby federations.
If the name of this new stadium may come as a surprise, it’s because it was negotiated following a sponsorship agreement between the State and the Aviva insurance company. Aviva paid over 44 million euros for the stadium to bear this name!
After 6 years of construction, Aviva Stadium was finally inaugurated by the Taoiseach on May 15, 2010. Since then, the stadium has hosted national and international soccer and rugby matches.
Attending a rugby or soccer match at Aviva Stadium costs between €20 and €300, depending on the period, location and match. It’s an investment you should make as far in advance as possible to avoid breaking the bank!
The atmosphere in the stadium is worthy of the greatest! Its remarkable architecture, coupled with the comfort of the bleachers, means that you can enjoy an inimitable over-the-top atmosphere! It has to be said that the Irish have no equal when it comes to heating up a stadium!
