Cloghanmore is an Irish megalithic site located about 8 km east of Glencolmcille, in County Donegal. This Neolithic tomb is composed of twin parallel galleries. Set in the heart of the Irish countryside, the site is well worth a visit!
The tomb is oriented east-west, with the main entrance at the eastern end. One of the 2 galleries is topped by a roof slab, providing shelter from rain and wind. Considered an atypical tomb (due to its structure), the site is something of a dolmen and was once a cairn in its own right.
Some of the megaliths are decorated with engravings, in the style of ornamentation already seen elsewhere in funerary corridors.
Access to the megalith is free, and is on foot through the Irish countryside. Located not far from the Slieve League cliffs, the site offers a complete change of scenery with its expanses of moorland and omnipresent greenery. It’s the perfect place to take a stroll around the site and explore the surrounding area!
