After a moderately steep ascent, you’ll discover the tomb of Queen Medb, a character from Irish mythology known for her authority, courage and ambition. It’s a cairn overlooking the Coolrea peninsula, similar in size to Newgrange (55 metres in diameter and 10 metres high). Over 40,000 tonnes of stone were used to build the tomb.

According to legend, the queen was buried here standing, facing north, towards Ulster and her enemies.
