Loch Na Fooey is less than 11km from the village of Leenane in County Galway. Surrounded by the Galway Mountains to the south and Mayo’s Partry Mountains to the north, it is fed by numerous rivers, including the Fooey River and Finny River.

Its waters are reputed to be rich in fish. These include brown trout, but also the famous Irish pike that is the fantasy of many anglers. It is possible to fish here, provided you have an official permit, which you can obtain in Leenane and Finny.

The lake features a small island, Red Island, near the south-eastern shore.

You can admire it on a stroll along the lake. There are signposted trails to suit all levels of ability, so you can spend a wonderful time in the great outdoors. Don’t forget to stop off at the western end of the lake, where you’ll find a nice sandy shoreline!
