Malin Head has the distinction of being the most northerly site in the country, without actually being part of Northern Ireland! Belonging to the Republic of Ireland, this spot is appreciated for its incredible views of the coastline. It has to be said that the area is a skilful blend of greenery, cliffs and rock, all coexisting with the sea.

In short: a sublime view that celebrates Irish wilderness and its close relationship with the sea.

Very popular, the area attracts a steady stream of Irish and foreign travellers every day to enjoy the panoramic views. It’s the perfect place to take a few photos, have a picnic overlooking the sea, and breathe in some fresh air.

For the record, the site is also well known to Star Wars fans: Malin Head was used in a number of scenes in the new films. That’s all it took for the site to gain even more notoriety!

In addition to its scenery, the area also boasts a meteorological observatory (which can deliver cutting-edge marine weather information), as well as a Navtex transmission station.

To reach Malin Head, you’ll have to reach Banba’s Crown, 2km to the north-east, which is the most northerly point in Ireland. A symbolic location, to be sure, but one that attracts many visitors every year, delighted to reach Ireland’s most northerly point!

A word of advice: wrap up warm. Even in summer, the area is exposed to sea breezes: it can get cold, so a sweater and a good windbreaker will make you more comfortable. And be careful not to stand too close to the edge: there are no railings or guardrails to prevent accidental falls.
