Newry is home to a pretty Catholic cathedral, the Newry Cathedral Parish. Rather imposing, it’s easy to find in the town center. Its architecture is worth the detour and is the pride of the town’s inhabitants!
Built in 1829 by Thomas Duff on Hill Street, this beautiful cathedral cost a staggering £8,000 to build!
Made of local granite, the monument is as impressive as the beauty of its stained glass windows, and was built on a classical Latin cross plan, with a main bell tower.
The style is deeply Gothic, with numerous buds and sculptures on the towers and roof.
You can of course visit the interior, although you may be asked to make a small donation in exchange for permission to take photos.
