Visit O’Brien’s Tower

A tower overlooking the Cliffs of Moher!

O’Brien’s Tower is the highest point on the Cliffs of Moher. From here, you’ll have one of the best views of the cliffs. It’s a chance to admire them, take a few shots, and see just how impressive and majestic nature can be!

The tower itself was built in 1835 by Sir Cornellius O’Brien MP. The original idea was to offer English tourists a place to admire the cliffs. In those days, the tower featured a tea room, with a large round table and wrought-iron seats. In short: everything to put travelers at ease, and allow them to enjoy the spot in the best possible comfort!

There’s another legend about this tower: many Irish people say that the owner built the tower mainly to impress the women he was courting. It’s got to be said that the place is wildly romantic!

Today, the tower is in perfect condition, and is one of the country’s most popular tourist attractions. This is where travelers go on foot to enjoy the breathtaking panorama. It’s easy to get to by following a secure ramp along the cliffs. Once you’ve arrived, the observation deck is ideal for admiring the Atlantic Ocean and the magnificent dark cliffs that plunge vertically into the ocean floor!

Binoculars are available for a fee, to make the most of the panorama.

On a clear day, the view can extend as far as the Loop Head peninsula, at the southern tip of County Clare. You can also catch a glimpse of the Kerry mountains. If you turn north, you can even make out the Twelve Bens (Connemara’s iconic mountains!). To the west, you can also see the Aran Islands… But that’s only if the conditions are just right, and the skies are clear!
