Renvyle Castle is a ruined castle located in Connemara on the Renvyle Peninsula. Built facing the ocean near White Strand beach, this tower is steeped in mystery and history…
Renvyle Castle takes the form of a half-collapsed 4-storey tower. It was built by the O’Flaherty family and later owned by Grace O’Malley, the famous Irish pirate queen.
The castle is rather fragile and difficult to access. Rather dangerous, we advise against venturing inside. Nevertheless, a quick tour around the building will reveal the castle’s former floors, its spiral staircase, the vaulted ceiling on the second floor, and the remains of several watchtowers. The whole thing has a really nice charm, taking you back to the days of Irish clan wars and pirate stories.
A lovely castle, to be admired without hesitation while taking a dip on the White Strand beach.
