The Skibbereen Heritage Centre is a museum in the village of Skibbereen in County Cork. This fascinating book focuses entirely on the painful episode of the Great Irish Famine. A must-see if you want to immerse yourself in Ireland’s past!
Skibereen is an Irish town deeply marked by the Great Famine… An Irish song, “Old Skibbereen”, recounts the terrible conditions of the Irish Famine.
To pay tribute to this sad episode in its history, the town has opened a museum dedicated to the event: the Skibbereen Heritage Centre. The program includes a poignant exhibition on living conditions at the time, with the terrible figures for mortality in the village (between 8,000 and 10,000 were buried in the town’s cemetery, Abbeystrewery Cemetery).
A dark subject, but really interesting!
