Stormont Palace is a building located in Belfast, Northern Ireland. It is the seat of the Northern Ireland Assembly, as well as the Northern Ireland Cabinet. It is a powerful symbol of the possibility of co-existence between Northern Irish nationalists and unionists.
Stormont Palace is where all political decisions concerning Northern Ireland are taken. The latter brings together Northern Ireland’s unionists and nationalists around a wide range of issues concerning the governance of Northern Ireland.
Stormont Palace has been home to the Northern Ireland Assembly and Cabinet since the second half of the 20th century. The beginnings were stormy, due to the many political tensions between nationalists and unionists.
Unfortunately for visitors, Stormont Palace is closed to the public, due to its political implications. However, it is possible to admire it from the outside: its neo-classical architecture, so dear to Northern Ireland, makes it an imposing building, symmetrical in every respect, with a pediment and impressive columns.
