Every Saturday and Sunday in Dublin’s Temple Bar district, the Temple Bar Book Market takes place. This market for second-hand books is a must for regulars and other devotees of literature of all kinds. It’s a great way to discover new reading material, while engaging in conversation with passionate readers!
Every weekend, it’s the same thing. After uninstalling the stalls at the neighborhood food market, it’s time for books to take their place on the stalls at Temple Bar. And there’s something for everyone: novels, comics, short stories, educational books…etc. These books are sometimes in excellent condition, sometimes with worn, weathered covers… but they all have an added charm!
You’ll find great Irish classics, as well as foreign writers, modern novels and older publications. There’s something for everyone!
Reading addicts don’t hesitate to meet there, with the idea of unearthing a new nugget that will keep them going until the following weekend. Here, people browse, discuss and debate… All in a cool, relaxed and smiling atmosphere. It’s an opportunity for book sellers to chat with their customers, give them advice on their latest finds… and have some great literary discussions!
Admittedly, this type of market is not necessarily suitable for people who don’t speak the language of Shakespeare. The Book Market, however, is a typical bohemian market that brings a touch of authenticity to the Temple Bar district.
Don’t miss a visit, if only for the friendly, multicultural atmosphere. This immersion alone will give you a real insight into the soul of Temple Bar.
And who knows… maybe you’ll fall for one of his books with its worn-out bindings: it’ll make an original souvenir of your exploration of the neighborhood, and one thing’s for sure: only you will own such a souvenir!
