Visit the Blackhead lighthouse

A lighthouse dating back to 1902!

The Blackhead lighthouse is said to have lit up the seas for the first time in 1902. It has the distinction of having guided great ocean liners, including the infamous Titanic, which sank much further in 1912 after hitting an iceberg.

The lighthouse was not automated until 1965, and was deserted by its keepers in 1975. Since then, Blackhead has remained in operation, offering rooms for tourists wishing to discover the charm of a night spent in a lighthouse (for a minimum of €300 for 2 nights). The experience is unforgettable: discover the sunrises and sunsets and enjoy the breathtaking scenery with the ocean in front of you! The apartments are located in detached houses that once belonged to the janitors.

Easy to reach, it’s less than 30 minutes from Belfast, and sits on the edge of a magnificent cliff. An ideal place to discover the wilds of Northern Ireland! Note the proximity of the Gobbins site: a path dug right into the cliff! It’s right next to the lighthouse and well worth a visit!
