If you’re passing through Ennis, in County Clare, then you’re likely to come across the De Valera Library and Museum, a museum and library dedicated to the history of the region, but also of the famous politician of the same name: Eamon De Valera.
The museum is located in downtown Ennis. Not very big, it offers a rather nice exhibition on the history of County Clare, but also on the history of the Republican struggle, in which Eamon de Valera took part. You’ll discover the life of the famous politician, who fomented the Easter Rising, took part in the Irish War of Independence and then the Civil War. During your visit, you’ll come across some original writings, signed by the politician himself.
But the museum is not only dedicated to Eamon de Valera. There’s also a more general exhibition on the agricultural past of the Ennis region. You’ll be able to admire a few objects from the period, as well as some written testimonials. Although you’ll quickly get the hang of it, the exhibition is interesting, and gives you a better idea of County Clare’s cultural identity.
The visit costs around €4.
