When Cork City Council plans to rename its airport “Cork Cillian Murphy International Airport”…
Cork has announced plans to rename its airport "Cork Cillian Murphy International Airport".

In a burst of creativity and with a typically Irish touch of humor, Cork Airport recently unveiled a rather unusual renaming plan in honor of Cillian Murphy, one of the city’s most famous sons.

In a press release, the airport announced that as of May 1, it would bear the name of the internationally renowned actor. This ambitious change would include transforming the airport’s main entrance, turning it into a mini Hollywood Boulevard.

Travelers should also be able to enjoy a moment of relaxation at the Disco Pigs Bar and Restaurant, a nod to one of the roles that launched Cillian Murphy’s career. Scheduled for completion in December 2024, the project is intended to revolutionize the airport’s image, and thus glorify one of the most outstanding players of his generation.

However, the revelation of this daring plan coincided with April 1st… revealing his mischievous nature. So it really was a joke on the part of Cork Airport!

The announcement, shared enthusiastically on social networks, was greeted with a mixture of support and amusement by the community. The positive reactions underlined a shared affection for Cillian Murphy, reinforcing the sense of local pride in the Oscar-winning actor.

An airport spokesperson shared this pride, citing Murphy’s positive influence on Cork City and its worldwide reputation.

This rather inspired April fool’s joke highlighted Cork’s deep admiration and respect for Cillian Murphy. A great comm’ operation, acclaimed all over the web!
