Here’s another iconic Irish pub in Dublin’s Temple Bar! Impossible to miss with its green storefront and colorful flags, the Oliver St. Germain is a must-see. John Gogarty’s Pub is a festive, ultra-touristy establishment for anyone who loves noise, festive atmosphere and good food! It’s a great time, rich in folklore and tradition!
The Oliver St. John Gogarty’s Pub is divided into 3 parts. The latter features an Irish pub, restaurant and youth hostel. All in one convenient location: a smart way to have everything on site!
The Irish pub combines all the attributes of a festive pub: it offers live music, an Irish-influenced drinks menu and some typical Irish dishes. Irish stew, Dublin Coddle, Guinnes bread (a delicious beer bread), smoked salmon, seafood chowder… You’ll get a good taste of the best of traditional Irish cuisine!
It’s a nice, friendly place to spend an evening (albeit a little noisy, but it’s an Irish pub, so there’s nothing wrong with that). The food is delicious, and the music carries you away with ease. The people are friendly, and the place brings together Dubliners and foreign travellers: a lovely melting pot of friendly, easy-going people!
But beware: this establishment is often a victim of its own success, so make sure you reserve a seat.
Some will find prices higher than elsewhere, but the area tends to target tourists and makes it easier for prices to rise. We’re in Temple Bar, remember, and many Dubliners regard the area as a “tourist trap”.
So, of course, the Oliver St. John Gogarty’s Pub is all about tourist folklore, and a little less about the retro authenticity of some of the city’s historic Irish pubs… But you’ll find Ireland on your plate, and the ambience calls on the ingredients of more classic Irish pubs.
Only the prices change… and the crowds! There’s hardly an evening when the Irish pub isn’t packed! Give it a try if you feel like it: you won’t be disappointed!
