The Oval Bar

The Oval Bar is one of Dublin’s most popular establishments. Located on O’Connell Street, and founded in 1822, the venue is famous for its Victorian-style storefront, with red brick and arched windows. The perfect place to sample Irish dishes, and enjoy the hospitality of a 200-year-old establishment!

A historic establishment, rebuilt many times over

Luck hasn’t always smiled on the Oval Bar. Founded in 1822, the establishment was destroyed in 1916 during the Easter Rising, only to be rebuilt in 1922… before being destroyed by the Civil War!

Fortunately, through sheer stubbornness, the establishment eventually enjoyed a happy life, rebuilding every wall and every stone. Since then, the Oval Bar has remained in business, attracting regulars every day for their Irish breakfast, Irish stew (one of the best in the area!), Cashel Blue cheese salad and fish and chips.

Here: we’re doing things in the pure Irish tradition. The establishment is a cosy, charming Irish pub-restaurant, with period decor and wood panelling with centuries of patina.

It is the haunt of many Oscar Wilde fans: a scene from the novel Ulysses is said to have taken place here!
