The story follows the adventures of Keegan, a young Irish boy who lives with his lighthouse-keeping grandparents in a small village by the sea. The little boy lives happily ever after… until the day his grandfather dies…
The weight of responsibility now falls on Keegan: he must take over and become lighthouse keeper in his own right… Especially as his grandfather has warned him about the dangers of leaving the lighthouse idle at night… A dangerous hunter could go hunting for the magical Irish stag, which would dry up Ireland’s rivers!
But for Keegan, it’s time to mourn and grieve. Too depressed, he forgets to turn on the lighthouse… which exposes the country and the magic deer to great danger! With his Spanish friend Moya, he does everything in his power to make up for his mistake, learning Irish dancing, playing hurling and befriending magical creatures… all while mourning his loss!

It was a risky and difficult gamble. Adapting the story of the Riverdance dance show to the big screen through animation was not without its pitfalls. But the challenge has more than been met: from the very first minutes, you’ll love entering Keegan’s World, with its typical Irish coastal village, wild landscapes, traditional musical ambience and Celtic legends!
More than just a cartoon, Riverdance l’aventure animée is an invitation to travel! The result is immediate: you want to go to the Emerald Isle and discover Irish culture!
And there are plenty of references! You’ll discover the subtleties of traditional Irish dance, how hurling, Ireland’s national sport, is played, and how St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated, a national holiday not to be missed…
Then the scenery subtly takes us to Newgrange (Co. Meath), Ben Bulben Mountain (Co. Sligo) and the Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland… Emblematic landscapes of the country, depicted with finesse but never clearly named in the film!
In short, the story offers a charming and poetic Irish escape that will appeal to young and old alike!
As for the story itself, it deals with the notion of mourning, the meaning of life, responsibility and duty… Values that initially frighten Keegan, but which he finally embraces at the end of the film.
The show alternates perfectly between humorous scenes and a more serious narrative. All of this is supported by magical creatures: the famous Irish stags, recognizable by their oversized antlers decorated with Celtic motifs! The dialogue is excellent, dubbed to perfection (with the VO version featuring the great Pierce Brosnan and Brendan Gleeson).
The result is a well-paced film that doesn’t bore you for a second.
In short, Riverdance, the animated adventure will give you a lovely Irish moment that will make you want to set off backpack in hand to conquer Ireland’s great wild spaces.
You’ll probably want to see the real“Riverdance” dance show. So look out for future dates and reserve your seats!
