The Guard is an Irish comedy starring Brendan Gleeson that follows the adventures of an Irish cop based in a Connemara village… Solitary and phlegmatic, he has his own vision of law and order… A scathing film that’s sure to spark hilarity among fans of the second degree!
The Irishman” tells the story of Boyle, a phlegmatic, rather solitary Irish cop with a love of Guinness, prostitutes and poetry. Based in a small village on the Irish coast, he spends most of his time waiting for offences to be committed, and enforcing the law at the local pub! A politically incorrect cop who uses unexpected methods to enforce the law!
But everything is about to change when a group of drug traffickers arrive to do business discreetly… and the FBI arrives, ready to carry out an unprecedented anti-drug operation! Agent Everett, a strict and manic FBI member, must work alongside Boyle, and their collaboration is sure to create sparks!
Fine, quirky and light, “L’Irlandais” is a pretty effective comedy! It features a brilliant Brendan Gleeson, sharper than ever after his last film, “Bons baisers de Bruges”.
The lines are hard-hitting, disturbing and politically incorrect to a fault. It’s enough to relax for a good hour and a half, while enjoying the Connemara landscape!
However, we can’t help but notice the film’s strong influence on its counterpart “Hot Fuzz”, an Anglo-Saxon comedy in which an uneventful village turns into a battlefield after the investigations of an overzealous cop…
