Guinness Original Extra Stout is one of the great classics offered by the Dublin brewery. But we’re not talking about the equally popular Foreign Extra Stout or Guinness Draught. This is a very different version: firstly, because it is stronger (with 5.6° alcohol) and has pronounced barley flavors. A lovely variant that should satisfy fans of beers with character!
Guinness Original Extra Stout is one of a range of beers from Dublin’s Diageo brewery.
It’s a historic beer, created in 1821 on the ideas of Arthur Guinness himself! His intention at the time was to create a “Superior Porter”, a beer with a more pronounced malt and barley flavour. A full-bodied beer capable of seducing even the most demanding connoisseurs!
On tasting, you’ll notice the strength of the malt, an assertive bitterness and hints of smoky wood and licorice. Balanced by subtle caramel flavours! The result is a beer with a solid reputation for strength and smoothness, enhanced by a subtle, creamy head!
Since then, Guinness Original Extra Stout has become one of the company’s great classics. Although less popular than Guinness Draught or Foreign Extra Stout, it is reserved for beer lovers with a strong character.
It is generally available in bottle and can format in Ireland.
But that’s not all!
This beer is an essential ingredient in a famous Irish national dish: Oysters in Guinness! Indeed, according to local tradition, this seafood dish requires a pint of Guinness Original Extra Stout. Its strength and intensity of flavour provide a perfect balance with the iodized flavours of Irish oysters! Try it out at the Guinness Storehouse, in restaurant 1837!
As you can see, Guinness Original Extra Stout is one of the great historical classics from Arthur Guinness’s brewery. Very attached to this recipe, the brewery continues to produce it, remaining faithful to the 1821 recipe.
For many purists, this is one of the best series offered by the brewery. A true benchmark for lovers of assertive flavours and finesse!
