It all began at Sadler Distillery, a British family business specializing in the distillation and brewing of craft beers since 1861. The success of the Peaky Blinders series gave them an idea: why not offer a whisky in the program’s colors?
No sooner said than done: the Sadler family embarked on the project and soon produced an Irish-style whiskey. The latter has all the characteristics of a typically Irish beverage: it is a triple-distilled Blend (a traditional Irish technique), produced in the Cork region.
It offers a balanced, strongly fruity taste with great freshness. Aromas of coffee and wood. The result is a particularly smooth, pleasant-tasting ensemble, in line with today’s Irish whiskeys.
It can be recognized by its deep amber color and full nose, with occasional peaty notes.
The Peaky Blinders – Peaky Blinders
On the marketing side, Sadler has also done a fine job. The bottle of Peaky Blinder whiskey proudly displays a portrait of Stephen McHickie, drawn when he was 25 years old. Born in 1879, he was a key member of the Peaky Blinders gang. He was known for his tattoos of women on both arms.
He was known to the police for his involvement in numerous petty thefts, brawls and violent clashes with other gangs. Break-ins, fights and acts of violence were all part of the young man’s daily routine, always working alongside his gang mates Thomas Gilbert, Harry Fowler and Ernest Bayles.
Since its release, Peaky Blinder whisky has never ceased to amaze, and has even won a few awards. The Sadler distillery also offers other spirits in tribute to the Peaky Blinder gang, including gin, spiced rum, whisky liqueur and more!
Each product features a portrait of a gang member. Enough to fuel the legend… and build on the success of a high-flying series and the story of a gang that really existed!
