Every year, Galway is the place to be! A famous company of artists, called Macnas, organizes the Macnas Halloween Parade, a grand parade dedicated to Halloween, held in the streets of Galway! The event is so popular that it attracts nearly 70,000 spectators! And we don’t blame them: the parade is over-the-top, and puts on an exceptional show!
Did you know that Ireland is the birthplace of Halloween? Formerly known as Samain, this celebration has its roots in a pagan festival of Irish origin!
That’s all it took for the Macnas collective to suggest that the city of Galway create an attraction dedicated to the festival! Every year, thousands of Irish and foreign travellers invade the streets of the city to attend one of Galway’s most important events!
And the program is well worth the detour! Mind-blowing floats, giant animated sculptures, music that makes you want to dance, musicians and dancers with superbly choreographed routines… The Macnas Halloween Parade is a festival of music and color!
Generally, each new edition focuses on a new story to tell… The parade also draws on the tales and legends of Irish folklore to pay homage to Halloween!
