The Prawn Cocktail (also known as the Shrimp Cocktail) is an Anglo-Saxon starter that the Irish like to serve regularly! This is a shrimp-based snack topped with a Marie Rose sauce. Delicious, this type of hors d’oeuvre is often served in Irish pubs.

The Prawn Cocktail is above all a British speciality that has seduced the Irish palate!

The brainchild of English chef Fanny Cradock, this hors d’oeuvre is a clever blend of baby prawns and crudités, topped with a “Marie Rose” sauce, a simple mix of ketchup and mayonnaise.

The result is certainly simple, but delicious, and allows you to tackle a meal in the right conditions!

Recipe: The Prawn Cocktail

Ingredients

  • 100g pre-cooked peeled prawns
  • 2 large pre-cooked and peeled shrimps
  • 1 salad
  • 1 cucumber
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 white onion
  • 4 tablespoons mayonnaise
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • lemon juice
  • paprika
  • salt
  • pepper

Preparation

  • Wash the salad and arrange a few leaves in a cocktail container.
  • Chop the onions, tomato and cucumber and place in the container.
  • Arrange your shrimp on top.
  • For the sauce, mix the mayonnaise with the ketchup and stir to obtain a smooth, pinkish mixture. Arrange the sauce over the shrimp.
  • Season with salt, pepper and lemon juice.
  • Sprinkle with paprika.
  • All you have to do is enjoy!
