I smell vinegar! Salt & Vinegar Chips are a typical Anglo-Saxon specialty, eaten not only in Ireland but also in Great Britain. These are nothing more or less than potato chips, seasoned with vinegar and salt, which are eaten as an aperitif or with a meal.

Tayto chips

The Irish often like to season their dishes with vinegar, and potato chips are no exception to this culinary preference. Salt & Vinegar Chips often have a strong, acidic taste, slightly soothed by the flavor of the potato. It’s a very simple delicacy, suitable for all lovers of strong flavors and salty acidity.

You’ll find them just about everywhere in Ireland, from grocery stores to smaller shops. The sachets are often individual and do not exceed 250g. Just the thing to tantalize the taste buds! In fact, it’s not uncommon to come across an Irishman on the street, armed with his packet of Salt & Vinegar Chips, quietly eating them as he walks.

Where to buy them

If you’ve tried these vinegar potato chips and are now craving more, you’ll be pleased to know that Comptoir Irlandais sells packets of potato chips imported directly from Ireland. A way to rediscover the authentic taste of this Irish flavour!

France is also starting to sell Chips au Vinaigre in some supermarkets. The only problem is that these potato chips were not produced in Ireland.
