Skellig Michael, Open Again!

An Island Once Inhabited by Monks from the 7th to 12th Century

Skellig Michael is one of Ireland’s treasured gems. Imagine a wild, uninhabited island rich in medieval religious remains, home to seabirds and incredible flora!

It’s easy to see why the Star Wars saga chose this iconic location to film some scenes featuring Luke Skywalker!

The site will be open to visitors starting this Saturday. However, please note that the reopening date depends on favorable weather conditions, and potential visitors are encouraged to check www.heritageireland.ie for updates.

Once there, you’ll have the unique opportunity to climb the 618 steps hand-carved into the rock by monks of the time. You can then explore the ruins of an incredible monastery with breathtaking views over the ocean.

Visitors this year will also benefit from specially designed facilities on site. These installations respect the natural environment and ensure greater safety for travelers.
