Ardara

Ardara is a small village in County Donegal, Ireland. It is the tweed capital of Ireland, with an international reputation for its expertise in wool weaving. The town has the advantage of being located in the heart of a magnificent wilderness: a corner between ocean and mountain that’s well worth the detour!

Visit Ardara

An ultra-touristy village

Ardara is one of the most popular villages, often overcrowded in summer. It’s here, in this charming town center with its colorful facades, that dozens of busloads of tourists pour in every day, pushing open the doors of the town’s craft shops.

For it’s here, in Ardara, that you can buy the best tweed in the country. The same goes for the famous Aran sweater (or Irish sweater): a pure new wool garment that everyone wants to buy!

The town center is very pleasant: lots of shops, Irish pubs and restaurants. The accommodation on offer is also top-notch: Ardara is well-suited to tourism, with a wealth of exceptional places to sleep in comfort and cosiness.

Ardara also has an excellent reputation for Irish music. The town is proud to be the birthplace of some of the dancers in Ireland’s Riverdance troupe.

What’s more, the village organizes a much-anticipated annual festival in May, bringing together Ireland’s finest musicians. They all indulge their passion for traditional Irish music! It’s a time when the whole town goes wild: singing, dancing, partying… and the Guinness kegs empty at breakneck speed!

If you prefer the great outdoors, don’t miss Glengesh Pass, just a stone’s throw from the village. All you have to do is put on your hiking boots and set off on a breathtaking hike where the wide open spaces offer grandiose views.
