A museum is planned for construction before 2030.

It’s still a little early to be pushing open the museum’s door… The city of Dublin is still in the early stages of the project, and work has not yet begun in earnest. Nonetheless, initial information is beginning to trickle in.

Among the news is that the future museum will take up residence on Moore Street, in the historic old houses that once served as the headquarters of the Irish rebel forces during the Rising.

The aim is to provide a fascinating insight into one of the most important chapters in contemporary Irish history. The political context of the time, portraits of the leaders of the revolt, written testimonies, photos, epic tales of the Insurrection’s greatest moments… It promises to be a fascinating and instructive experience!

Part of the National Museum of Ireland’s collections will be relocated to the new premises.

As for the cost of the works, it will be colossal: it is estimated that some 16.3 million euros will be required for its implementation. A titanic project, yet one that is struggling to get off the ground…

After all, work has still not begun on the project! Although the first works were ordered for 2023, the project doesn’t seem to have moved an inch for several months.

The cause is administrative inertia and the absence of a definite site manager!

With such a substantial delay, the OPW (Office of Public Works), in charge of the project, was keen to reassure the public that it had not abandoned the future museum project.

With the passage of time, it is now a matter of getting back on track, reapplying for administrative permits and then taking action.

Although we still don’t know when the museum will open (not for another 2 or 3 years, given the state of progress), it’s clear that such a facility has real potential. It could even make it into the top 5 of Dublin’s best attractions if it puts its mind to it!
