Belvedere House Gardens & Park is a superb manor house located in the Mullingar area of County Westmeath, Ireland. Built in 1740 on the north-eastern shores of Lough Ennell, it is one of the architectural wonders of the area.
The Belvedere House Gardens & Park may seem rather austere in appearance, with its gray bricks and small, paned windows…
But the interior is just as resplendent as it is impressive!
Here, in rococo and Victorian Baroque style, you’ll discover all the charm and refinement displayed by the premises’ first owner, Sir Robert Rochfort!
Ceiling moldings, period furniture in rare woods, crystal chandeliers and fascinating paintings…
And that’s not to mention the magnificent tree-lined gardens, and that strange wall on the estate, known as the “Jealous Wall”!
This ruined wall was apparently built by Robert Rochfort to conceal his brother’s house below. The latter is said to have slept with Robert Rochfort’s wife, provoking immense resentment and jealousy! Don’t hesitate to go and see it: it’s well worth a visit and has a certain charm all of its own!
Following a multi-million pound restoration project, the manor house and gardens are now open to visitors. Numerous concerts and festivals are also organized on the estate to enjoy the charm of the place!
