Bridge Mills is a famous Galway bridge spanning the river Lough Corrib. Made entirely of stone, this bridge is said to be 430 years old! A pretty cool bridge, worthy of Dublin’s Ha’Penny Bridge!
Bridge Mills is believed to date back to the Middle Ages and was built in the 16th century. Recently restored, the bridge houses a small shopping center, with tiny stalls selling local crafts.
Access is free and open to all, whether on foot or by car, and offers a lovely view of the River Corrib and Galway’s tall buildings. Musicians like to stop here to play a few tunes for strollers: a surprising place, which reinforces the town’s strong identity and medieval past!
Every summer, Galway celebrates the history of the bridge with open-air medieval banquets, complete with period costumes, medieval music and period entertainment. A wonderful way to pay tribute to the bridge’s history!
