Rivers
Le Lough Corrib - Denis Simonet - cc

Lough Corrib is an Irish river located in County Galway, on the east side of the island. Its prolific waters boast a particularly rich flora and fauna, which is of great interest to anglers and botanists alike. A true extension of the lakes and rivers of Connemara, this river is a wonderful place to fish for salmon, and to enjoy landscapes as diverse as they are varied.

Visit Lough Corrib

A River that splits Galway in 2

Don’t be surprised if you make a quick tour of the river, which at 6 km long is one of the smallest in Europe!

The River Corrib originally rises in the lake of the same name, then meanders towards Galway, crossing the city from one end to the other, before emptying into Galway Bay. It’s thanks to the river that Galway lives on 2 opposite shores, and is therefore endowed with a multitude of bridges linking the 2 sides of the city.

For fishing enthusiasts, don’t miss the period when wild salmon are flocking in from all over the world! From June to September, it’s almost impossible to come back empty-handed! During this period, however, the peace and quiet of the Corrib River is abandoned in favor of tourists and fishermen of all nationalities. All in all, a minor inconvenience that will prevent you from fishing alone in the middle of an uninhabited landscape…

Beware, however, of the current of the Corrib River: it is particularly strong, and even more so on rainy days.
