Creevykeel is a Neolithic monument in County Sligo, Ireland. Used until the Bronze Age, it is now in a remarkable state of repair that will fascinate all megalith enthusiasts!
Creevykeel is a tomb believed to have been built between 4000 and 5000 BC. It is easily distinguished from other cairns by its rather atypical trapezoidal shape.
It comprises an oval courtyard, a burial chamber with 2 compartments, and 3 other chambers in which bones and other prehistoric tools have been found.
The cairn is 55m long and 25m wide at the eastern end, where the entrance is located. You can walk around it, but don’t go inside. Take care not to damage the stones.
You can admire the different chambers, as well as numerous megaliths. The area is quiet and friendly: enough to make Irish history lovers dream!
