Nicknamed the “Dublin Zoo”, the Natural History Museum of Dublin is part of the Natural Museum of Ireland. Located right in the center of town, on Merrion Street, in a 100% Victorian-style building, it exhibits animal species from the 4 corners of the globe. The program features a retro-vintage atmosphere and an ultra-economical price: the visit is entirely free!
The Natural History Museum was founded in 1857 by the famous explorer David Livingstone. Since then, the establishment has never ceased to welcome a public increasingly fascinated by its collection.
The facility boasts several hundred animal species, all from around the world. Highlights include a 20-meter-long whale skeleton and giant deer skeletons, not to mention countless naturalized animals used in dioramas in scenes that will appeal to young and old alike.
It’s an opportunity for the whole family to discover the world’s great species (extinct or still alive), to raise awareness of the need to respect the planet, and to learn more about the characteristics of each species.
The museum is really nice, rather retro (it’s stayed the same since it opened), and gives us the impression of traveling through time, nature and space. Visit on a rainy day: it’s easy to lose track of time!
