The Dunmore East Lighthouse is an Irish lighthouse, located between the harbor of Dunmore East, County Waterford. Dating back to 1825, it is part of the city’s historic heritage!
In Ireland, it’s common for coastal villages to have a lighthouse. Such is the case of this small village of less than 2,000 inhabitants (Dunmore East), which built a 16-metre-high sandstone tower in 1825.
Impossible to miss, it can be identified by its white-painted lantern and bright red railing. This Doric-style lighthouse is the only one of its kind in Ireland: there is no other lighthouse of this style on the Emerald Isle.
To get there, you’ll have to go to the end of the harbor jetty (near the fishing boats).
Although it’s not possible to go inside, you can admire it from the outside. It is always active, emitting white and red flashes at 8-second intervals, depending on direction.
