After an explanation of the art of stout making, you can enter a wing of the museum dedicated entirely to Arthur Guinness, the brewery’s founder.
His desk and old armchair are still on display, as are the official texts signed by him, which led to the creation of Ireland’s most famous brewery!
You’ll learn how, in 1759, he decided to acquire this dilapidated brewery at St James’s Gate for £100 and then £45 a year, granting him ownership rights for 9,000 years! (Note that the contract can be found at the entrance to the museum, on the floor, under a glass slab. A photo idea if you want to immortalize your visit in an original way).
The Guinness storehouse – dennizn
A few floors up, you’ll find a range of Guinness merchandising items. Enough to make the brand’s biggest collectors green with envy!
There are many Guinness bottles, dating from 1759 to the present day…
Add to this the various glasses sold over the centuries, vintage coasters and posters bearing world-famous slogans such as “Guinness is Good for You! The famous Toucan is also present, in a variety of colors! It’s the perfect way to understand the extent to which the Guinness empire relied on innovative communication from the outset!
If you go any further on your visit, you’re bound to come across the Guinness Storehouse shop. And then, watch out for your wallet!
Because you’re looking at a gigantic, absolutely insane store! You’ll find everything from clothing and caps to coasters, posters and more! It has to be said that the brand is ultra-gifted when it comes to derivative products!
There’s even chocolate and chips in brown beer flavour! Not to mention the key-rings and other original goodies that generally win over visitors (their T-shirts have the merit of being original and unobtainable in countries like France or Belgium).
Pricing isn’t cheap, and some products are easy to fall for. Beware: although there’s less choice elsewhere, the tourist stores in the city center offer Guinness products at prices that are often more affordable!
Pints of stout, with your portrait!
Once you’ve reached the top of the museum (accessible only by elevator), you’ll access a magnificent round, glazed terrace overlooking Dublin at 360 degrees!
In the center of the room is a bar, where a waiter will be happy to serve you a creamy pint on presentation of your admission ticket. Why deprive yourself? The pint is free!
Note the possibility of having your portrait printed on the foam. A unique and recent attraction, where you can literally drink your face off! The concept? You take a photo of yourself, and pass it on to your bartender.
The latter then sets up a 3D printer that will place your face on the cream of your beer! To do this, the printer deposits a special malt extract that stays on the cream, without falling to the bottom of the pint.
The result is stunning! Please note that there is an additional charge (€6.50) for this extraordinary experience!
Once you’ve been served, all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the view from one of the terrace armchairs! You’ll have a 360° view of the whole of Dublin, thanks to the transparent glass walls!
After a well-deserved rest, you’ll be invited back down to the ground floor, home to Ireland’s largest Guinness Store! You’ll be able to buy a whole range of merchandise, from T-shirts to Guinness bottle-openers!
