An inspiring island for a talented writer

Innisfree is a small island in Lough Gill, County Sligo. Accessible by a pretty bridge, it offers superb hiking trails. Here, you can stroll, picnic and enjoy lovely views of the lake.

You can also discover the beauties of the lake by boat with the “Rose of Innisfree” company. They’ll take you on a tour of Lough Gill, and show you the island from the waterways…

For the record, Innisfree was the inspiration for William Butler Yeats, who wrote the poem Lake Isle of Innisfree, a 5-quatrain poem in which he praises the island’s peace and tranquility… Its lyrical flights and the perfection of its verses make it one of his finest poetic works.

Don’t hesitate to take a look: you might just be able to capture the mood the poet was trying to convey!
