Jenkinstown Wood is a forest park less than 10 minutes from Kilkenny. It’s the ideal place to take a stroll and escape to a 100% natural setting. This is where you’ll find the Jenkinstown Wood Loop, a loop that makes for a fun little hike. Just follow the purple signposted route: beautiful scenery awaits you!
A land steeped in history, Jenkinstown Park was once part of a large estate, which boasted several hectares of woodland, as well as a large historic manor house. Today, the existing house has long since disappeared…
But the estate has lost none of its superb character. Its fascinating landscapes, with imposing oak, beech and ash trees, not to mention the many birds that populate the branches above our heads, are a testament to this!
You can hike through the forest park and enjoy modern facilities such as a picnic area, deer park and craft center.
The site also boasts a small garden commemorating Irish poet Thomas Moore – a friend of Byron and Shelley.
Walking through Jenkinstown Wood is a real pleasure. The atmosphere is one of relaxation and symbiosis with nature. You may come across a few foxes, deer and other wild badgers along the way… but don’t worry, they’re quite shy!
