If you’re looking for a pretty beach not far from Dublin, then Killiney beach is for you! It’s a long pebble beach, with breathtaking views of Bray Head and Dalkey Island. Magnificent, it is renowned for the quality of its water, and is one of the most beautiful beaches in the region.
Let’s face it: Killiney Beach is far from just a beach. Of course, its vast expanse of pebble (be careful, some areas hurt your feet) and its invigorating water are much appreciated, but the beach really comes into its own thanks to its magnificent natural setting!
The beach is not far from Bray Head, a mountain that silently watches over the town of Killiney and Bray. Also visible offshore is Dalkey Island, a tiny Irish island less than 300 metres off the Dalkey coast. The island is famous for its Martello tower and 9th-century church.
The beach offers a contrast of lush greenery and ocean landscapes in alternating shades of blue and gray.
Easy to access, it has its own parking lot, perfect for parking without having to drive miles to get to the beach.
Once there, you’ll find that the spot is rarely overcrowded. The beach, though very popular in summer, is pleasant at any time of year, and it’s easy to find a secluded spot to lay down your towel.
As far as the bathing area itself is concerned, there is an exclusion zone for motorized boats 300 m from the foreshore. Perfect for a leisurely swim.
But beware: the area is rather frequented by boats off the beach: bathers should be aware that there may be sudden large waves caused by car ferries.
In any case, Killiney beach is the perfect spot for a summer dip, a stroll along the shore, or even a romantic picnic in front of a beautiful sunset. We recommend it!
