The Limerick City Museum, now renamed the Jim Kemmy Municipal Museum, is a Limerick city museum dedicated to the history of the city and its region. Located in Limerick’s historic quarters on King’s Island, the museum features fun exhibits and an impressive collection of archaeological remains!
The museum is housed in an old building on King’s Island, easily recognizable by its white Georgian facade. The museum’s collection covers a wide period in the history of County Limerick, and includes many Bronze Age relics, everyday objects from the Middle Ages, Limerick lace and many farming tools from the Irish peasantry.
You’ll also discover Limerick’s Viking origins, right up to the Anglo-Norman and then Cromwellian assaults. Here you’ll discover the ravages of the Great Famine, as well as the abject poverty in which Limerick’s inhabitants once lived.
The museum is quite modern, and features numerous documentaries and videos on giant screens. A fun way to see the city from a historical perspective…
