Lugnaquilla (Log na Coille in Gaelic), is part of the Wicklow Mountains in Ireland. At 925 metres, it is the highest mountain in the county, and is said to be the thirteenth highest peak in the country! Its summit reveals an impressive view of the Wicklow Mountains National Park!
The Lugnaquilla is a rather impressive mountain, requiring no less than 8 hours to climb! Bordered by 2 glacial cirques (North Prison and South Prison), the mountain has a large plateau, overlooking the Wicklow Mountains National Park and the Irish Sea on clear days.
To reach it, take the Glen of Imaal: it’s the most direct route. Don’t go off on your own, and make sure you have an excellent level of fitness: this is a demanding mountain, and is essentially for experienced, well-equipped hikers. The gradient is quite steep in places and will require good stamina.
Nevertheless, your efforts will be rewarded by an exceptional panorama!
