Located in Ballybunion, in the northern extension of Ballybunion beach, is without doubt one of the most beautiful beaches in the whole of Ireland. It has to be said that Nuns beach, though small, is a wonder in itself to explore!

The intriguing name “Nuns Beach” comes from the Irish nuns who once visited this discreet cove to enjoy a moment of serenity away from the world.

Surrounded by high cliffs, this beach offers a natural refuge, ideal for meditation and contemplation.

Beyond its history with nuns, this beach may have been a place of meditation for various travelers for centuries. Its time-sculpted rocks and calm waters give it a spiritual aura, conducive to reflection.

A hidden paradise, where nature imposes itself wherever you look

Warning: getting to Nuns Beach is an adventure in itself. The descent, though sometimes steep, can be tricky if you’re not well shod. Be careful where you put your feet!

Once you’ve arrived on the spot, you’ll be amazed by the fine, immaculate sand. Its transparent water is an invitation to swim (but beware, the water remains cruelly cold!). Finally, the beach boasts a superb rock arch, just a few metres from the shore. With its feet in the water, it is the result of centuries of erosion and seems unshakeable despite the ocean’s assaults!

Finally, the beach is renowned for its surrounding greenery. Its rocky plateaus are covered in lush green. Depending on the season, lichen and other purple plants brighten up the landscape, contrasting with the blue of the ocean.

In short, the beach is a sight to behold. Take advantage of the opportunity to organize a picnic, a swim or just a walk with your feet in the water! The beach is often quiet, ideal for relaxing and enjoying a romantic or family moment.
