If you love trails and coastal scenery, then don’t hesitate to experience the Ballybunion Beach Trail. It’s a 2-hour hike from Ballybunion beach, exploring a stunning coastline of seascapes, local history and outdoor adventure.
Ballybunion, nestled in County Kerry, is famous for its golden beaches and breathtaking cliffs. But that’s not all: this corner of Ireland is steeped in shipwreck stories, mermaid legends and tales of smugglers.
Also, don’t hesitate to do the trail from Ballybunion Beach. This hike forms a two-hour loop that takes you past the famous Ballybunion Castle, a ruined fort facing the ocean.
You’ll then pass the Cashen Course Ballybunion Golf Club, a superb golf course that borders the ocean and offers dazzlingly contrasting green landscapes.
But that’s not all: the Ballybunion Beach Trail guides you through a variety of landscapes, from sandy beaches to rocky coves and rolling dunes. At every turn, the view of the Atlantic is a new spectacle.
As you venture along the trail, keep your eyes peeled! The cliffs are home to a multitude of seabirds, from cormorants to guillemots, while the dunes hide a fragile flora unique to coastal regions.
The level is accessible to all: the trail is very well marked and without difficulty. Just bring good shoes and a backpack with water, snacks and something to cover up in case of changeable weather.
