It has to be said that the name Puck’s Castle comes from the name of the ghost who is said to have haunted the castle since its beginnings… Stories of its existence abound throughout the country, much to the delight of fans of tales and legends… Scary, isn’t it?
For the more pragmatic, the castle is the bearer of an important historical episode: it is said to have once served as a refuge for King James II (also known as James II) and his army, during their escape from the Battle of the Boyne. It’s a fact that’s far from insignificant, and adds a whole new dimension to the château!
