St Mary’s Cathedral is an Irish Catholic cathedral located in the village of Killarney. Built in the 1850s, this magnificent building is proudly Gothic in style. A must-see cathedral in Killarney!
Killarney Cathedral is rather reminiscent of St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin. Deeply Gothic, with pointed arches, large vertical stained-glass windows and a Latin cross floor plan.
Inside, the place is silent and solemn, subdued by the light of its colorful stained glass windows. Don’t miss the imposing 1869 organ, still intact, and the cathedral’s fine interior architecture.
Here, you can take photos, in exchange for a few coins for the cathedral… In fact, it’s written all over the building, and the cathedral staff are quite vigilant in this respect.
In any case, the place is impressive, and well worth a visit if you like religious buildings… And best of all, access to Killarney National Park is just a 500-metre walk from St Mary’s Cathedral!
