The Ballyvoyle Tunnel is a former Irish railway tunnel, located in County Waterford. It’s one of the attractions of the Waterford Greenway, a 46km cycling route from Waterford to Dungarvan (allow 2 days to complete the circuit). Built in 1878, it is no longer used by trains.
The Ballyvoyle is a great attraction if you like to immerse yourself in the buildings of yesteryear, with all their historical anecdotes. It has to be said that the tunnel is of genuine architectural interest.
The building has retained all its 1878 features: elliptical-headed openings, ashlar voussoirs, barrel vault… The tunnel is beautiful, very well preserved and nature has invaded in places, adding to its charm.
There’s plenty of room for you to wander freely, by bike or on foot, for an out-of-time, out-of-space stroll.
