Shuttles to the cliffs usually depart from Doolin harbour. You can choose between 2 competing companies: Doolin 2 Aran Ferries and O’Brien Line. Their services are quite similar, and both offer you the chance to go to the foot of the cliffs and enjoy the sea spray and sea air!
The boats are large enough to accommodate a dozen passengers. You’ll benefit from the expertise of a guide who will introduce you to the specific features of each cliff. The explanations are friendly, convivial and always distilled with a dose of Irish humour!
Above all, don’t forget to dress warmly: the sea air can be chilly, and you won’t be safe from a few waves either! Please note that the boats do not leave in bad weather, so be sure to check with the local weather office before heading to Doolin…
Different routes are offered depending on the weather. One of the most spectacular runs along the coast for 6km until it reaches the mythical O’Brien’s Tower. Hold on tight, as breathtaking vistas unfold before your eyes!
The boat sails and the cliffs roll by, ever higher, ever more dizzying. 214 metres of sheer height above you – it’s simply mind-blowing! With our heads raised towards these stone giants, we feel very small… Especially when you get up close and personal with the steep walls studded with seabirds of all kinds.
Here and there, spectacular rock formations take shape: incredible natural figures that never cease to stimulate the sense of wonder!
It’s not uncommon to spot seals, dolphins or puffins on your way to certain sites, such as the surrounding islands. Something to delight young and old alike!
The view of the cliffs from below is spectacular! Don’t hesitate to take your camera with you: the view is really worth the detour and you’ll feel very small in front of the immensity of the Cliffs of Moher and the beauty of the ocean!
