The Galley Head Lighthouse

Irish lighthouses
Le Galley Lighthouse - Simon Toussifar

Galley Head Lighthouse is an Irish lighthouse in County Cork. Built on the tip of Galley Head in 1875, it is still in operation today, providing safety for boats travelling to and from the surrounding area. Magnificent, with its white column, it enjoys an exceptional setting, between green expanses and steep rocks beaten by the waves. A place to discover if you love lighthouses and the sea!

Visit Galley Head Lighthouse

The most powerful lighthouse of its time!

Galley Head Lighthouse is historically one of the most powerful lighthouses in Ireland. At the time of its construction, the building had a luminous range of almost 30km in optimal conditions: a real record for its time!

Equipped with 2 janitor’s houses (accommodating up to 6 people), the lighthouse is now automated and no longer requires human intervention on site.

The lighthouse is not easily accessible, as it is located on private land. It can only be admired from the outside, and from afar. Choose a day with good weather: it offers a sumptuous panorama of the bay!
